A Pain Free Lawn

You can't put it off any longer - it's time to mow the lawn. Just be sure to be safe. Every year, around 75,000 people in the United States are injured in lawn mower accidents, and about 10,000 of those accidents involve children. You can avoid serious injury if you take some basic precautions, like:
Wear Protective Clothing. Long pants may be warmer, but they will protect your legs better than shorts. Steel-toed boots and protective goggles are recommended.
Pick Up Your Lawn. Before starting to mow, walk around the area and remove any debris - sticks, rocks, etc. - that might damage your mower or become a dangerous projectile.
Keep the Kids (and Pets) Away. Don't let your little loved ones play near the area where you are working. And don't take children for a ride on your lap if you are using the rider mower - they could fall off and get hurt.
Be Careful With Inclines. Always mow from one side to the other on a slope, never up and down.
Go Forward. Try to avoid backing up when you are mowing. If you must reverse course, be very careful to look behind you before moving.
Refuel with the Engine Cold. If you use a gasoline-powered mover, don't pour the fuel in while the engine is warm - the heat could ignite it. Let it cool down first.
